Gonna Use My Sidestep

Chris had some guys from work over for a dude night complete with Rock Band, pizza and beer. The last time they came over I took the opportunity to have a ladies night and grab some sushi with some girlfriends but this time I had some wedding stuff to take care of. Namely, RSVP envelope addressing. Our invitations are still being printed, but we got our envelopes today so I’m trying to get a leg up on the process. While the guys rocked out in the next room, I stuck label after label to a seemingly bottomless box of envelopes. But at least I had a cold Stella Artois to keep me company.

Soon enough, though, I got bored of all that labeling so I bugged the guys for a bit. They even let me sing a song! It’s funny how un-rock ‘n’ roll people can seem when they play Rock Band. Where’s the scissor kicks? Where are the big hair and lycra? I’m going to totally insist these guys amp up their showmanship next time.

I don’t know about you guys, but TGIF. Seriously. I’m looking forward to the weekend because I’m shooting a baby shower on Sunday. It’s a big one: over 100 people are expected so I’m sure it’s going to be a lot of fun. Stay tuned next week for some choice shots from that.

And, since it’s Friday, time for a Friday Song! This week’s song is a cover of a Grizzly Bear song by CSS. If you haven’t heard of Grizzly Bear, they hail from Brooklyn and just have an amazing sound. This CSS cover is really great, too. I read today that they’re going to be opening for Radiohead on some of the U.S. dates on the Radiohead tour. Please, please, please…let one of those dates be Los Angeles. Let me know what you think of the song. Enjoy!

Rest and Relaxation

My awesome friend Alisha is working on fixing this here blog to my liking. So excited! Also excited about leaving for Joshua Tree this weekend. Expect new images next week!

Today’s image is from Natali and Cory’s wedding. A little bit of downtime while getting ready for Natali and her Sister-In-Law, Kim.

Before I forget: It’s Friday! You know what that means: Time for me to post a song I’m digging at the moment. Today’s song comes to you from She & Him, a duo comprised of actress Zoey Deschanel and musician M. Ward. If you saw the movie Elf then you probably already know how great Zoey’s voice is. Her tone is perfect for M. Ward’s artistry with a guitar. This song is the first I’ve heard off of their upcoming album. I cannot wait to hear the rest. Enjoy!

Have a great Easter weekend!

I Remember, Long Ago …

I think the best part about photographing kids is that for the most part they don’t try to pose. Heck, most of them refuse to pose. For someone like me, this is great, because you are able to better capture the essence of their personality in a photo. This one was taken during a company kickball game/picnic. It was a family affair and this kid is the son of a co-worker. He was a rambunctious one–in your face on the kickball field and unable to sit still when it wasn’t game time. I captured the shot just as he picked up the ball and tried to persuade his dad to get the game started. I like to think you can see the wheels turning underneath that curly mop of his, as if he’s thinking, “Hmmm, how can I get what I want?”

Los Angeles Visit

This past weekend Chris and I had the pleasure of a five-day visit from our friends Alisha, Scott and Sam. They flew in from Denver Thanksgiving morning and we were SO EXCITED to hang out with them. We did our best to show them around the city and even got to do a couple of things we hadn’t done before. We checked out the tombstones at Hollywood Forever cemetery, went to Venice Beach, saw the Takashi Murakami exhibit at the MOCA and shopped a little in Silverlake, Little Tokyo and even in good ol’ Burbank.

Sam recently turned 4 and is basically the cutest kid I’ve ever laid eyes on (besides my three brothers, of course). I’ve posted some of my favorite shots from the weekend. It should be obvious that Sam is quite the photogenic kid, as are his awesome parents. They are a really cool family and I feel quite lucky to know them.
