You Were the Mother of Three Girls So Sweet

umbrella.jpeg

Yet another sloppy border; yet another old photo from Chinatown. Give me a break, I’m busy! Besides, I really kinda like this one.

Alone in Kyoto

Another old image (guess who hasn’t been taking photos!), this one from almost two years ago, I think! Allow me to introduce you to my friend Karl. He doesn’t like to have his photo taken–you’ve probably gathered this from his expression. But that doesn’t stop me from forcing him to pose for photos! I am lucky in that he always obliges–what a pal! This photo was taken during an exploration of Chinatown with a few friends. I miss explorations, I need to arrange one of those soon.

As you can see, I’m trying out the whole “sloppy border” look with this one. I kinda like it … what do you think?

Why Can’t Life Always Be This Easy?

jayden.jpeg

This is Jayden. He’s my cousin’s kid and is surprisingly sweet and demure given the rambunctiousness of his father (Hi, Jeremy!). Though, like his dad, he loves to have a camera pointed at him. Future model right there.

New and Improved

Just a quick note for those who come to this blog via an RSS feed and therefore probably don’t go to my main site all that much:

I’ve launched a completely new site for my portfolio. I think it looks fantastic, so take a minute to check it out!

Oh, and you’ve probably noticed that I changed this here blog to match. There are a couple things I’d like to change about the way the blog looks but can’t seem to figure it out. So, if anyone is well-versed in that kind of thing, please let me know! :)

I Think I’m Paranoid

fortune.jpeg

For the past couple of months Chris and I have been really focusing on our health. We’re watching our food intake, getting some more exercise in and generally trying to make better choices when deciding what to eat. This decision has led to both of us losing weight and feeling better–both in body and in mind. Well, on Saturday I was home alone with not much to do and instead of going out to shoot some photos (the original plan), I ordered in some Chinese food and watched movies. Of course I ordered way too much food and proceeded to eat all of it by myself. As icing on the engorged cake, I opened a fortune cookie. When I read the message, shown above, I almost fell off the couch from laughing so hard.

Oh, cruel world. Why must you mock me so? I must say, it is pretty nice when the universe plays its part to keep you in check. Today I’m back on track and looking forward to hitting the gym later to take a bit of that cookie’s advice.

I Waited For Days

Explored Echo Park a bit at 10pm on a Saturday night. Got this shot about two minutes before it started to rain again.

Gotta Get Right Back

sushi.jpeg

For Valentine’s Day, Chris and I stayed home and he made me sushi, with seared ahi steaks as an appetizer. It was all so amazingly delicious and he was the cutest sushi chef I’ve ever seen. As the night went on, his rolls got a lot tighter and more professional looking, but my favorites were the sloppy ones in the beginning–I think they had more love in them.

Do Nothing

Since I made the decision to post every day on this blog, I’ve done just that–until yesterday. That’s okay, though, the main part of the site is getting a super-duper upgrade and will be awesome in no time, so I was focusing on my photography, just in a different way.

Last night I rushed home after work to get some shots of the lunar eclipse, but by the time I got there it was too late. So, this shot from last summer will have to do. It was a discarded one that I found when going through my files. When I took it I was standing in the middle of a New Mexico road and the entire world was completely silent.

What Is a Nerd?

There are several things I enjoy about this shot.

Thing number one: The most obvious thing. That’s a life-size model of a Power Ranger.
Thing number two: The second obvious thing. That kid is in complete awe of said Power Ranger.
Thing number three: There’s a toy completely abandoned in the middle of the floor by said boy.
Thing number four: There’s a man in the background whose nose is completely stuck inside a comic book.
Thing number five: When I look at this photo I am reminded of that time I went to a comic book convention and only complained a few times.

Please Stop Raining

beth.jpeg

This past Summer, Chris and I flew to South Dakota for his cousin Ian’s wedding. It was a weekend event that brought together one side of Chris’ family almost in its entirety. Everyone spent their time at a fantastic little cabin on the Missouri River bed that was owned by the bride Beth’s family. The weather was gorgeous the entire time we there–until minutes before the wedding was scheduled to start, of course. The rain came down in buckets at first and the crowd of guests crammed into the tiny main room of the cabin to take refuge. There was a Plan B in case of rain, but Beth had her heart set on getting married next to that river since she had spent many summers there growing up. The group huddled together, waiting for the rain to let up. Beth stood in white amongst her family and friends, pacing between the group and the window to see if there was a sign of clear skies.

I snapped this shot during one of her last trips to the window. You can also see her mother-in-law Joan in the reflection of the window. Joan and Beth stood at that window for a few minutes just staring at the sky. I really felt for Beth at that moment–it was obvious how much she was hoping the storm clouds would move along. The group left the final choice up to Beth who ultimately decided to move to Plan B: getting married at the nearby winery where the reception was being held. The ceremony was lovely either way–rain or shine, riverbed or winery.
